Who We Are

The Public Association “Golden Heritage of the Aral Sea” (GHAS), based in Nukus, Karakalpakstan, is a non-governmental organization established in 1998.

GHAS works to improve the quality of life of local communities through social, economic, cultural, and environmental development.

Its mission is to support sustainable livelihoods, raise public awareness, and preserve cultural heritage while ensuring that the best traditions and values are passed on to future generations.

The organization takes a practical, community-centered approach by providing training and creating employment opportunities, especially for women, youth, and vulnerable groups, while promoting traditional crafts, tourism, and entrepreneurship.

It actively collaborates with international partners and supports grassroots initiatives to strengthen community participation and resilience.

Guided by strong values, GHAS places people at the center of its work, promotes equal opportunities and gender equality, respects cultural traditions, and remains committed to environmental responsibility and open collaboration.
